Welcome to the Sonvisage Blog: Lowering Maternal and Child Mortality Rates Across Africa

There is a woman in a rural community in Northern Nigeria who goes into labour at 2 a.m. The nearest health facility is 40 kilometres away. There is no ambulance nearby, no motorable road, and no way to alert anyone fast enough to help her reach a hospital. For too many women like her, that gap between where they are and where care is has cost them their lives. That gap is exactly why Sonvisage exists. Welcome to our blog. We are more than excited to have you here.

A Little About Us

Sonvisage is a health technology company on a mission to reduce preventable maternal and child deaths in underserved communities across Africa. We build innovations, both hardware and software that bring healthcare closer to rural communties, especially the vulnerable women and children who need it most, and connect them to life-saving referral protocols especially during emergency situations.

We do this through three core innovations we call our Tripod:

1.The Labulance 3.0: it is a retrofitted tricycle designed to serve as a mobile emergency vehicle in rural areas where traditional ambulances simply cannot reach. It carries lab tools, resuscitation equipment, and communication capabilities,  bringing clinic care to commuities with low access to healthcare and transporting them to higher facilties in cases of emergencies.

2.CareBridge is a mobile application that enables community health workers to trigger emergency responses and coordinate referrals between rural areas and health facilities, instantly.

3.Mediboards is a suite of clinical software tools that helps hospitals and health facilities manage patient flow, prioritise emergencies, and improve communication across care teams.

Together, these three innovations form what we call our Tripod,  a systems-level approach to emergency healthcare that works across communities, transit, and facilities.

So, Who Is This Blog For?

If you are reading this, chances are you care deeply about one or more of these things:

1.Expanding access to quality healthcare, especially in places where it is hardest to reach

2.Strengthening health systems so they can actually save lives consistently

3.Harnessing technology to solve existing, urgent health challenges across Africa

You might be: A healthcare professional working on the front lines every day, Someone at an NGO or development organisation dedicated to closing equity gaps in health outcomes, an innovator looking for gaps in healthcare to contribute to, A policymaker or government official exploring how to scale proven, practical solutions, Or simply a mother searching for reliable information to protect her own health and her child's.

Whichever category you belong to, this blog is for you. We are writing for people who are in the business of saving lives and want to stay informed, inspired, contribute and connect to what is happening at the intersection of health and innovation across Africa.

What to Expect Here

1.Impact Stories from the Field. The numbers matter, but the stories matter more. We will bring you real accounts from the communities we serve, the health workers using our tools, and the lives that have been changed because of faster, better-coordinated emergency care.

2. Health Education and Awareness: In this section, we will clearly explain the main drivers of maternal and child mortality in underserved regions, unpacking the latest data, world context, and underlying systemic factors that keep these deaths tragically common. We will cover current global and regional health news, key trends in maternal and child health, important advances in health technology, relevant health policies, and the realities of community health across Africa. Our aim is to make these topics easy to understand and take prompt action so that health workers, policymakers, advocates, and community members can discuss them with greater clarity and respond with more effective, informed action.

3.Innovation and Technology Deeply. How does Labulance actually work in the field? What went into building CareBridge? What problems did Mediboards solve that spreadsheets couldn't? We will take you behind the innovations.

4.Company News and Updates. New partnerships, pilot expansions, product updates, milestones, you will hear it here first.

Why This Blog, Why Now?

Because the conversation around healthcare access in Africa deserves more voices, more nuance, and more honesty than it usually gets.

We have seen what happens when communities are left out of emergency health infrastructure , not as statistics, but up close, in the field. And we have also seen what happens when the right tool reaches the right person at the right time. We want to document both, and contribute meaningfully to the wider conversation about what it actually takes to build resilient health systems from the ground up.

We are a small team doing big work. This blog is our way of thinking out loud, sharing what we are learning, and staying in community with everyone who is working toward the same goal.

Let's Build This Together

We would love for this to be more than a one-way conversation. If you are a health professional with insights to share, a partner organisation with a story to tell, or a policymaker with questions you'd like us to address, reach out to us at info@sonvisage.com.

The work of reaching the unreached is too important to do alone.

Thanks for being here. Let's get to work.
